Frequently Asked Questions

If I get Social Security Disability benefits, does that effect my Long Term Disability or Pension Disability benefit?

  • Yes, it can. Many Disability Insurance policies and Pension Plans require that your Social Security benefits be subtracted from your disability insurance or pension disability payments. This is often found in a section titled "Other Income" in your policy or plan document. If this applies to you, it means that the insurance company or pension plan administrator will only pay you the difference (i.e. they will subtract your Social Security Disability payment amount before they send you your monthly check). You must read your policy or plan to find out if this wil happen in your case.
